Learn How To Make Lube Last
Working in the sex and sexual health industry, I always have plenty of lube, and that’s a good thing. If you want to make lube last, you need the right products, storage methods, and usage techniques. A well-stocked bedside drawer or sex drawer is as essential as any toolbox in the house. Whether you use lube for solo play, partnered experiences, or to enhance comfort, knowing how to extend its lifespan can save money and improve pleasure.
Lube is more than just a slippery addition to intimacy. It reduces friction, enhances sensation, and makes every experience smoother. However, not all lubes last the same amount of time. Some dry out too quickly, while others break down when exposed to air or body heat. Understanding which lubricants work best, how to apply them effectively, and how to store them properly ensures you get the most out of every drop.
If you have ever found yourself running out of lube too soon, dealing with sticky residue, or wondering if you’re using the right kind, this guide will help. From choosing the best formulas to practical tips for making each application last longer, let’s explore how to maximize the benefits of your favorite lubricants.
18 Unbelievable Ways You Can Make Lube Last
1. Make Lube Last – Lip Care
Harsh weather can leave lips dry, cracked, and irritated. Cold wind, sun exposure, and even indoor heating strip moisture from delicate skin. A high-quality, water-based lube can work as an effective lip moisturizer, sealing in hydration and protecting against the elements. Unlike traditional lip balms, lube lacks waxy buildup, making it feel lighter and smoother on the lips.
One unexpected benefit of using lube as a lip balm is its neutral or slightly unappealing taste, discouraging the habit of licking your lips. Frequent licking worsens dryness, so this subtle deterrent helps keep lips hydrated longer. For those who love a little color, mixing a tiny amount of water-based lube with lipstick creates a lightweight, glossy finish. This DIY lip gloss offers a smooth, non-sticky texture, leaving lips looking naturally radiant without the heaviness of commercial glosses.
When choosing a lube for lip care, opt for body-safe, fragrance-free formulas without glycerin or artificial additives. These ingredients can sometimes cause irritation or dryness. A high-quality, water-based lube ensures long-lasting moisture, helping lips stay soft, supple, and protected from environmental damage.
2. Make Lube Last – Make-Up Remover
Stubborn makeup can be frustrating, especially when your usual remover fails to break down heavy foundations, waterproof formulas, or SFX makeup. Instead of scrubbing or irritating your skin, silicone-based lube offers a surprisingly effective and gentle solution. Its silky texture effortlessly dissolves long-wear cosmetics, leaving skin clean and hydrated without harsh rubbing.
For an easy cleanse, warm a few drops of silicone lube between your hands, then gently massage it onto your face. The lube breaks down even the most stubborn makeup, lifting it away without stripping your skin’s natural moisture. Wipe off with a soft cloth or rinse with warm water, and enjoy a refreshed, makeup-free face.
False lashes can also be tricky to remove without tugging or damaging natural lashes. Instead of pulling, dip a cotton swab in a small amount of lube and run it along the lash band. Let it sit for a few seconds, then gently slide the lashes off. The lube helps loosen the adhesive, making removal painless and preventing irritation.
Unlike some makeup removers that contain alcohol or drying agents, silicone lube leaves skin soft and nourished. If you have sensitive skin, opt for a fragrance-free, hypoallergenic formula to avoid irritation.
3. Make Lube Last – Shaving
Lube isn’t just for the bedroom. It is a game-changer for shaving. Thanks to its moisturizing and protective properties, lube creates a smooth barrier between the blade and your skin, reducing friction and irritation. Unlike traditional shaving creams, it doesn’t foam or dry out, allowing for better visibility and a closer, more comfortable shave.
One major advantage of using lube for shaving is how well it clings to hair. It coats each strand, helping to lift it away from the skin for a cleaner cut. This ensures the razor glides effortlessly, reducing the risk of nicks, razor burn, and micro-tears. The hydrating nature of lube also helps maintain the skin’s natural moisture, preventing post-shave dryness and irritation.
This method works exceptionally well for sensitive areas like the underarms, bikini line, and taint, where coarse hair and delicate skin require extra care. Since lube minimizes friction, it helps prevent ingrown hairs and reduces discomfort after shaving. For the best results, use a high-quality, water-based or silicone lube without added fragrances or irritants. After shaving, rinse with warm water and pat dry for silky-smooth skin that stays hydrated longer.
4. Make Lube Last – Moisturizer???
Many blogs suggest using lube as a moisturizer, and while it has some skin benefits, it doesn’t truly hydrate. Moisturizers work by penetrating the skin’s dermis, delivering deep hydration and nourishing ingredients. Most lubes, especially silicone-based ones, are too thick to absorb properly. Instead of moisturizing, they create a surface barrier that locks in existing moisture rather than adding more.
Lube excels as a protective layer, shielding the skin from micro-tears and reducing friction. This makes it great for shaving, chafing prevention, and intimate comfort but not as an everyday moisturizer. If your skin feels dry, it’s better to use a dedicated lotion or cream with humectants like hyaluronic acid or glycerin, which actively draw moisture into the skin.
For those looking for a quick fix, a thin layer of water-based lube can provide temporary relief for dry skin, especially in areas prone to irritation. However, it won’t replace a high-quality moisturizer. Instead, use lube as a supplement to your skincare routine, sealing in hydration after applying a proper moisturizer rather than relying on it alone.

5. Bushy Bushy Brows
Unruly brows don’t have to ruin your look. If your brow hairs refuse to stay in place, a tiny amount of lube can work as a lightweight styling gel, giving you sleek, well-groomed brows in seconds. Unlike some brow gels that leave flakes or stiffness, lube provides flexible hold with a natural finish.
To use, apply the smallest amount possible, just a dab on your fingertip or a clean spoolie brush. Gently work it through your brows, shaping them as desired. Too much lube can leave brows looking greasy or overly shiny, mimicking a sweaty forehead rather than a polished look. The key is moderation.
Lube’s lightweight texture keeps brows in place without feeling sticky or heavy. It is especially useful for thick, coarse, or stubborn hairs that tend to lose their shape throughout the day. For best results, choose a water-based lube without fragrance or additives, ensuring it won’t irritate your skin. With this simple trick, you can achieve effortlessly defined brows that stay put, no expensive brow gel needed.
6. Make Lube Last – Fly Away Hairs Got You On End?
Taming flyaway hairs doesn’t have to mean weighing your hair down with heavy products. Lube sits perfectly between leave-in conditioner and hair gel, offering light control without stiffness or crunch. A tiny amount can smooth frizz, define waves, and create a sleek, polished finish while keeping hair soft and touchable.
For a natural, effortless look, rub a drop of lube between your palms and lightly run your hands over your hair. Focus on problem areas where flyaways tend to appear, like along the hairline or at the ends. Unlike traditional hair gels, lube won’t harden or flake, making it perfect for a relaxed, beachy style. It adds a subtle sheen without making hair look greasy, giving you a hydrated and polished appearance.
This trick works especially well in humid weather when frizz becomes unmanageable. Because lube is lightweight and long-lasting, it helps seal in moisture and keeps hair under control without constant reapplication. For best results, use a water-based lube free from heavy oils or fragrances to avoid buildup. With just a small amount, you can enjoy smooth, frizz-free hair all day.
7. Gum In Your Hair!
Put the scissors down. There’s no need to chop off chunks of hair when gum gets stuck. Instead of reaching for peanut butter or ice, try silicone lube. Its slick texture helps break down the gum’s stickiness, making it easier to slide out without pulling or damaging hair.
To remove gum, apply a generous amount of silicone-based lube directly onto the affected area. Gently work it in with your fingers, coating the gum and surrounding strands. As the lube breaks down the gum’s grip, slowly ease the gum out by pulling it downward with a comb or your fingertips. If needed, add more lube and continue massaging until the gum completely loosens.
For the best results, choose a high-quality silicone lube like SuperSlyde. It has a long-lasting, ultra-smooth texture that effectively dissolves sticky residues without drying or damaging hair. Once the gum is removed, wash your hair with shampoo to eliminate any leftover residue. This method is safe, easy, and far less messy than other home remedies, keeping your hair intact and gum-free.
8. Make Lube Last – LICE!!!
Dealing with lice can be frustrating, but silicone lube makes the process easier. Its thick, slick texture helps detangle hair while trapping lice, preventing them from escaping as you comb. Unlike traditional lice treatments that rely on harsh chemicals, lube provides a gentle, non-toxic alternative that suffocates lice and makes removal more effective.
To use, apply a generous amount of silicone lube to dry hair, ensuring every strand is coated from root to tip. Let it sit for at least 10 minutes to slow down the lice. Then, use a fine-tooth lice comb, starting at the scalp and working down to the ends. The lube makes combing smoother, reducing hair breakage and discomfort while catching lice more easily.
Because lube is thick, it prevents lice from moving freely, making it harder for them to escape during the process. After combing, rinse hair thoroughly with shampoo to remove any residue. Repeat the treatment as needed over a few days to ensure all lice and eggs are gone. This method is a simple, effective way to manage lice without exposing your scalp to harsh chemicals.
9. Chafing killing your stride?
Chafing can turn any activity into pure misery. Whether you’re running, hiking, or just walking in humid weather, friction between skin or clothing can cause painful irritation. A little lube goes a long way in preventing that raw, burning sensation, creating a smooth barrier that reduces friction and keeps skin comfortable.
Even if you’re not a runner, you’ve probably experienced chafing. Walking on the beach in damp shorts, wearing tight clothing, or sweating under layers can all lead to red, irritated skin. Silicone-based lube is especially effective for preventing chafing because it’s long-lasting, water-resistant, and doesn’t absorb into the skin too quickly. Apply a small amount to common trouble areas like inner thighs, underarms, or anywhere fabric rubs against the skin.
Lube isn’t just for athletes. If you have eczema or psoriasis, you know how irritating it can be when clothing constantly rubs against sensitive patches of skin. A thin layer of lube can provide relief by reducing friction and locking in moisture. For the best results, choose a fragrance-free, hypoallergenic formula to avoid further irritation. With just a small application, you can move comfortably without the sting of chafing slowing you down.
10. Make Lube Last – First Aid
Lube isn’t just for personal care. It can also be a lifesaver in first aid. If you need a flexible, reusable ice pack for swelling, bruises, or sore muscles, lube makes an excellent alternative to store-bought gel packs. Its smooth, gel-like consistency allows it to freeze while staying pliable, making it more comfortable to use than solid ice.
To make a DIY ice pack, fill a ziplock bag about halfway with lube, then seal it tightly. Place this bag inside a second ziplock bag for added leak protection. Freeze for a few hours and you’ll have a soft, moldable gel pack that conforms to any part of the body. Unlike ice cubes, which can be too rigid and uncomfortable, a lube-based ice pack provides cold therapy without sharp edges pressing into the skin.
This trick is perfect for treating injuries, reducing swelling, or easing muscle pain after a tough workout. Since lube doesn’t freeze solid, the pack stays flexible, making it ideal for wrapping around joints or hard-to-reach areas. For best results, wrap the ice pack in a cloth before applying it to the skin to prevent frostbite.

11. Hate Breaking In New Shoes?
Breaking in new shoes can feel like pure torture. Stiff material rubs against your skin, causing painful blisters before your shoes finally feel comfortable. Instead of suffering through the process, grab some lube and apply a small amount to the areas where your shoes tend to rub. This creates a smooth barrier that reduces friction and prevents irritation.
Focus on common trouble spots like the back of the heel, sides of the toes, and the edges where straps or seams press against your skin. A tiny dab of lube allows your foot to glide smoothly inside the shoe, eliminating painful chafing. Unlike thick creams or bandages that can bunch up, lube stays lightweight and invisible, keeping your feet comfortable without mess or bulk.
This trick works for any type of shoe, from stiff leather boots to brand-new heels. It’s also a lifesaver for breaking in summer sandals, preventing painful rubbing before your skin even has a chance to blister. Keep a small travel-size bottle of water-based lube in your bag for on-the-go relief, so you can enjoy your stylish new shoes without the painful break-in period.
12. Make Lube Last – Last Season’s Dress Shoes Looking A Little Rough?
Nothing ruins a polished look faster than scuffed, dull shoes. If you’re rushing to an event and your patent leather or latex shoes look worn out, silicone lube can bring them back to life in seconds. Its slick, glossy texture works like a quick polish, restoring shine and making your shoes look brand new.
To use, apply a tiny drop of silicone lube onto a soft cloth and gently buff it into the surface of your shoes. Watch as scuff marks fade and the material regains its original sleek finish. This trick is a lifesaver for patent leather heels, latex boots, and even glossy handbags that have lost their luster. Unlike traditional shoe polishes, lube leaves no sticky residue and works instantly.
One important rule is to avoid using lube on genuine leather shoes. While it enhances shine on synthetic materials, it can damage leather by preventing it from breathing properly. Stick to patent leather, latex, or vinyl, and your shoes will look fresh and event-ready in no time. Keep a small bottle of lube in your closet for last-minute shoe emergencies, and you’ll never step out looking anything less than flawless.
13. Knotted Chain
Few things are more frustrating than finding the perfect necklace, only to realize it is tangled in a mess of knots. Instead of struggling for hours or risking a broken chain, a little lube can work wonders in loosening stubborn tangles. Its slick texture helps metal links slide apart easily, saving time and frustration.
To untangle a knotted chain, apply a small drop of lube directly onto the knot. Gently roll the chain between your fingers, allowing the lubricant to work its way into the twisted links. As the knots begin to loosen, use a needle or a thin pin to carefully tease them apart without pulling too hard. If needed, add another drop of lube and continue working until the chain is completely free.
This trick works especially well for delicate chains that can easily break under too much force. Once untangled, wipe off any excess lube with a soft cloth and rinse the chain with mild soap and warm water to remove any residue. With this simple hack, you can rescue your favorite jewelry and keep your collection tangle-free with minimal effort.
14. Make Lube Last – Stubborn Price Tags
Few things are more annoying than peeling off a price tag only to be left with a sticky, stubborn mess. Some tags come off effortlessly, while others seem to be bonded with industrial-strength glue. Instead of endlessly scraping or using harsh chemicals, a little silicone lube can break down the residue and leave surfaces clean and smooth.
To remove a stubborn price tag, apply a small drop of silicone lube to the sticky area and let it sit for a few seconds. The lube works to dissolve the adhesive, making it easier to wipe away without damaging the surface. Use a cloth or your fingers to rub the residue gently, adding a little extra pressure if needed. If any glue remains, apply another drop and repeat until the surface is completely clean.
This method works on glass, plastic, and even glossy packaging without leaving behind scratches or damage. Once the residue is gone, wipe the area with a damp cloth to remove any leftover lube. With this simple trick, you can get rid of annoying sticker residue quickly, leaving your new purchase looking pristine and ready to use.
15. Gum Under The Table!
Few things are more disgusting than finding old, dried gum stuck under a table. Whether you are dealing with a restaurant mess or an unpleasant surprise at home, removing hardened gum can be a nightmare. Some restaurants even use KY lube to make the process easier, and for good reason. The slick, slippery texture helps break down the gum’s grip, making removal far less of a struggle.
To remove gum from a table or any hard surface, apply a generous amount of water-based lube directly to the gum. Let it sit for a minute to soften the sticky residue. Using a scraper or a paper towel, gently lift the gum off the surface. The lube prevents the gum from sticking again, allowing it to slide off smoothly. If any residue remains, wipe the area with a damp cloth and a bit of soap for a completely clean finish.
This trick works on wood, metal, and plastic surfaces without causing damage. Instead of scrubbing endlessly or risking scratches, lube makes the job quick and easy. The next time you face an unexpected gum situation, you’ll know exactly what to reach for.
16. Make Lube Last – Ring Stuck?
Getting a ring stuck on your finger can be painful, frustrating, and even a little scary. Whether it’s from swelling, heat, or just an ill-fitting band, forcing it off can make things worse. Instead of panicking or reaching for soap and water, a little lube can work wonders in sliding it off effortlessly.
Apply a small amount of lube around the base of your finger and gently work it under the ring. The slippery texture reduces friction, allowing the metal to glide smoothly over the skin. Slowly twist and wiggle the ring back and forth while applying slight pressure. With a few gentle pulls, the ring should slip off without discomfort.
This trick works especially well when fingers are swollen from heat, exercise, or fluid retention. It’s also a safer alternative to using excessive force, which can cause bruising or irritation. If the ring still won’t budge, elevate your hand for a few minutes to reduce swelling before trying again. With just a little patience and the right technique, lube can save the day without the need for cutting or emergency intervention.
17. Door Jams
A stubborn door lock can turn a simple task into a frustrating struggle. If you find yourself jiggling and wiggling your key every time you try to unlock a door, a tiny drop of silicone lube can make all the difference. Its smooth, non-drying formula helps the key slide effortlessly into the lock, preventing sticking and unnecessary wear on the mechanism.
To fix a sticky lock, apply a small amount of silicone lube to the key. Insert it into the lock and turn it a few times to distribute the lubricant inside. This helps loosen any built-up dirt or grime, restoring smooth movement without damaging the internal parts. Unlike oil-based lubricants, silicone lube won’t attract dust, keeping the lock functional for longer.
This trick also works for squeaky or stiff door hinges. Apply a tiny amount of lube to the hinge pins and move the door back and forth to work it in. The squeaks will disappear, and the door will open and close with ease. With just a small application, lube can keep your locks and hinges working smoothly without the mess of traditional greases.
18. Make Lube Last – In the Shop
Silicone lube is a surprisingly handy tool in the workshop. While WD-40 is the go-to for many maintenance tasks, silicone lube can work as a quick substitute when you’re in a pinch. It reduces friction, prevents sticking, and keeps metal parts moving smoothly. Though it may not last as long as traditional lubricants, it is an excellent temporary fix for common household and workshop needs.
If your hair clippers start pulling instead of cutting, a small drop of silicone lube on the blades can restore smooth performance. It also works wonders on bike chains, preventing rust and keeping gears shifting smoothly. Stiff rolling drawers or sliding tracks can also benefit from a thin application of lube, helping them glide open effortlessly. Unlike heavy greases, silicone lube won’t attract dust or leave behind a sticky residue.
For best results, use a silicone-based formula without added fragrances or additives, ensuring it doesn’t gum up delicate mechanisms. Whether you are maintaining tools, fixing squeaky hinges, or lubricating small mechanical parts, keeping a bottle of silicone lube in your toolbox can save time and effort when you need a quick fix.
You can even use it to grease your fishing rod!
Although Silicone Lube like SuperSlyde can be used for masturbation and sex why not try using it for other purposes!

Make Lube Last – Top 4 Lubricant Recommendations For Women In 2025
As a woman, I understand that it can be a bit of a challenge finding the perfect personal lubricant. There exists so many brands on the market that it is an overwhelming endeavour if you have no idea what exactly you are searching for.
The pH balance of a woman’s vagina is very fragile, with caution around what goes in and near there necessary to maintain a healthy balance. For women, especially those that are prone to vaginal infections and thrush, I recommend investing in a good quality lubricant free of nasty ingredients.
Your body will thank you for it! I have compiled a list of my favourite personal lubricants that I recommend for women, perfect for a range of needs.
Intimate Earth Hydra & Defense
It is not a coincidence that I have included Intimate Earth Glide first off – This brand is my absolute favourite! Intimate Earth products are made in the USA and include organic ingredients. Both Hydra and Defense are vegan, glycerine and paraben free.
Hydra is a natural plant cellulose with minimal smell and a really nice glide to it. This is a great product for a woman looking for a simple lubricant that can be used for vaginal and anal sex with sex toys.
Defense includes tea tree oil, giving it a stronger fragrance which I personally love.
Tea tree oil has natural antibacterial qualities which gives this lubricant a protective quality. The Carrageenan Sea Kelp and Guava Bark Anti-Bacterial extract found in this lubricant is said to be used for anti-yeast infection and HPV protection.
Without reading peer-reviewed research, I am reluctant to validate these claims however it is an amazing lubricant for many other reasons including the smooth texture.
These lubricants do not go sticky or tacky like many other water based lubricants. But the only down side would be that frequent reapplication is necessary.

JO For Her Agape Water Based Personal Lubricant
Coming in at a very close second place, JO For Her Agape Water Based Personal Lubricant is an incredible product that never lasts long due to its popularity.
JO Agape is Glycerin, Glycol and Paraben free making it a great option for most women. The formula is on the slightly thin side with a super silky glide. I have found this lubricant to be very long lasting compared to many other water based products on the market.
A big thumbs up from me!

Pjur Woman & Nude
I know that it is a bit of a generalisation but the people of Germany sure know how to make great sex toys and lifestyle products!
Pjur is one of the most well know personal lubricant brands, with the Pjur Original Silicone Based Lubricant one of the best sellers in the Oh Zone Adult Lifestyle Centres.
Pjur Woman is a tweaked version of the Pjur Original silicone lubricant, with the slightly gentler formula perfect for many women.
Silicone lubricant is great for sex and massage however can only be used with glass or steel sex toys.
Unlike water based lubricants, your skin does not absorb silicone lubricant.
So it needs to be washed off with soap and water and can stain sheets so be mindful when using it.
A study also showed that some women have a higher chance of having a negative reaction to silicone lubricant compared with water-based so be mindful of this when trying it. Silicone lubricant is great but does not suit every woman.
Pjur Woman Nude is a water based lubricant that I have reviewed previously and have only good things to say about. Free of parabens and glycerine, Nude is a perfect accompaniment to your sex drawer.
It can be used with most sex toys too. A little bit goes a long way with this fantastic lubricant.

Wildfire Black All Over Pleasure Oil
Wildfire All Over Pleasure Oils are my favourite multi-purpose massage oils, made in Australia from 100% natural ingredients.
The Black bottle take precedence on my bedside drawer, with this oil great to use as lubricant, massage, bath and body oil. The Black contains fragrant essential oils such as Ylang Ylang, Patchouli and Bergamot along with natural aphrodisiacs like Maca and Horny Goat Weed.
It is important that if you are using latex condoms, anything oil based will disintegrate the material making them almost useless.
Just with silicone lubricant, oil is only to be used with glass or steel toys. Keep this in mind if using Wildfire Oil as lubricant and be mindful that oil will stain the sheets!
A hot tip for you – Mix the Wildfire Pleasure Oil with some warm coconut oil to make it go further when using it for massage.
Every woman’s body is unique and will react differently to each of these products. I suggest trying on a small patch of skin first to ascertain if you have any reactions.
If during or after use of these products you experience any unusual symptoms, please cease using them. It is definitely not worth pushing through if your body has a negative reaction to any product.
Oh and don’t worry gentleman, despite these products being recommended for women, they are perfectly safe for men too!
